Impeachment Inquiry Launched Against Trump Over Iran Conflict

(SeaPRwire) –   Congressman John Larson has charged US President Donald Trump with waging an “illegal war,” claiming the American leader is growing increasingly “unhinged”

Democratic lawmaker John Larson has submitted articles of impeachment against US President Donald Trump over his actions tied to the ongoing Iran conflict.

Larson, a Democrat from Connecticut, confirmed on Tuesday that he had filed 13 separate impeachment charges, accusing Trump of waging an “illegal war” and escalating threats against Iran that have put US national security and the lives of American citizens at risk. He added that Trump is growing “more unhinged” and “more unstable by the day.”

“Donald Trump has blown past every requirement to be removed from office. And it’s getting worse,” Larson said in an official statement.

Larson also highlighted a threatening comment made by Trump: “open the Strait … or you’ll be living in hell,” noting that such remarks “foreshadow war crimes.” He added that Trump is “unable or unwilling” to faithfully carry out his presidential duties.

Roughly 70 Democrats, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senator Chris Murphy, have called on Trump’s cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove him from office, arguing he is unfit to serve. The constitutional amendment allows the vice president and a majority of the cabinet to declare a president unable to perform their duties, which triggers a transfer of executive power.

“They have an obligation to put patriotism over politics and invoke the 25th Amendment,” Larson said.

Several Democrats have amplified this call. Representative Jim McGovern said the administration should “immediately invoke the 25th amendment,” while Congresswoman Lauren Underwood described Trump as “unstable, dangerous, and unable to function as Commander in Chief.”

Larson’s impeachment filing comes as Trump paused planned strikes on Iran for two weeks late Tuesday to pursue a “workable” 10-point proposal put forward by Tehran. He reversed course after an appeal from Pakistani negotiators, just hours after warning that “a whole civilization will die tonight” if the Strait of Hormuz remained closed.

US strikes have already damaged key Iranian infrastructure, including bridges, rail lines, a train station, and the strategic oil hub on Kharg Island. According to recent reports, more than 1,500 people have been killed since late February, including civilian casualties.

Republicans and Trump supporters have defended the strikes, saying they are intended to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. Tehran has denied this claim, insisting its nuclear program is entirely for peaceful purposes.

Removing a sitting president via impeachment requires a majority vote in the House of Representatives and a two-thirds majority vote in the Senate.
