(SeaPRwire) – Tehran has commended Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir for their efforts to bring the war to a close
Iran has expressed its gratitude to Pakistan for its role in mediating after a two-week ceasefire in the conflict with the US and Israel was declared.
Pakistan has extended an invitation to Iran and the US to meet in its capital, Islamabad, on Friday to resolve all disagreements and terminate the hostilities.
“I express gratitude and appreciation for my dear brothers Prime Minister of Pakistan [Shehbaz] Sharif and Field Marshal [Asim] Munir for their tireless efforts to end the war in the region,” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated in a statement on behalf of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran.
Araghchi stated that the truce is a response to an American request for talks, which is founded on Washington’s 15-point proposal and President Donald Trump’s acceptance of the general outline of Iran’s 10-point plan.
“For a period of two weeks, safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be possible via coordination with Iran’s Armed Forces and with due consideration of technical limitations,” the statement from the Iranian Supreme Council, shared by Araghchi, said.
Pakistani Prime Minister Sharif declared the ceasefire earlier on Wednesday, confirming that Iran and the US have consented to stop the fighting.
“Both parties have displayed remarkable wisdom and understanding and have remained constructively engaged in furthering the cause of peace and stability,” Sharif stated in his post.
The Pakistani leader further mentioned that he is hopeful the discussions in Islamabad will be successful in securing lasting peace.
Trump also confirmed the ceasefire, which aims to negotiate a lasting peace agreement based on a “workable” 10-point proposal from Tehran that was conveyed through Pakistan. The US President said he consented to the pause in hostilities after discussions with Sharif and Munir.
Sharif had earlier requested a two-week extension from Trump after the US president warned that “a whole civilization will die” if Tehran did not submit to his demands.
“I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks,” Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social.
Trump has, however, cautioned that the Iranian proposal in its current state is not acceptable to the US and that he would authorize severe new airstrikes if a final agreement is not achieved by the new deadline.
