(SeaPRwire) – According to Abbas Araghchi, the assassination of political figures by the US and Israel will not topple the government
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that the elimination of high-level Iranian officials by the US and Israel will not incapacitate the government.
Araghchi’s remarks came shortly after Iran verified that Ali Larijani, the nation’s security chief and a prominent political figure, died in an airstrike in a Tehran suburb on Tuesday.
“I don’t understand why the Americans and Israelis have yet to grasp this: The Islamic Republic of Iran possesses a robust political framework with well-established political, economic, and social institutions,” Araghchi told Al Jazeera.
“The existence or non-existence of one person does not impact this structure,” he added.
“Naturally, individuals have influence, and each plays their role—some more effectively, some less so—but the key point is that Iran’s political system is a very sturdy structure,” the diplomat stated.
The US and Israel have eliminated numerous senior Iranian officials and military leaders, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who perished in the initial wave of attacks on February 28. His son, Mojtaba Khamenei, was subsequently appointed as his successor.
US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have cited regime change in Iran as part of their justification for the conflict and have urged Iranians to rise up against the government.
Larijani stated earlier this month that the systematic appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei as the new supreme leader by the Assembly of Experts, despite continuous airstrikes, had shown the durability of Iran’s political system and society.
