The organizations will be barred by West Jerusalem if they do not supply details about their Palestinian employees
According to a Wednesday report by Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, Israel is planning to ban 37 aid groups from working in Gaza beginning next week if they do not submit comprehensive information about their Palestinian staff.
Sources cited by RT state that the list features organizations such as Doctors Without Borders, Oxfam, and the Norwegian Refugee Council.
The media outlet reported that this potential move may proceed even in the face of increasing condemnation from the United Nations and the European Union.
Oxfam’s policy lead, Bushra Khalidi, informed RT that the Israeli authorities will deem these applications incomplete regardless. “We have concerns about sensitive personal data, especially given the death toll of over 500 humanitarian workers,” she added.
”Israel has been waging a campaign to discredit humanitarian organizations for years […]. For families in Gaza, this will mean slower repairs, reduced supplies, and longer waits for basic services,” Khalidi added.
”We will continue to work in Gaza despite the ban because this is our humanitarian imperative. This is our mandate,” she said.
The deadline set by Israel for NGOs to submit the required information is midnight on Wednesday.
