Kremlin Awaits US Details on Ukraine Cease-Fire Proposal

The Kremlin stated on Wednesday that Russia is awaiting details from Washington regarding discussions that occurred in Saudi Arabia before commenting on a proposed cease-fire.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Moscow needs “detailed information” from the U.S. regarding the 30-day cease-fire plan that Ukraine reportedly agreed to. He implied Russia needs to be fully informed before deciding if the proposed cease-fire is acceptable.

Russia has consistently demanded a permanent end to the conflict and rejected any compromises.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who headed the U.S. delegation in Tuesday’s Saudi Arabia talks with Ukrainian officials, indicated Ukraine was open to a 30-day cease-fire. Rubio said the U.S. intends to brief Russia on the specific details of the proposal.

“We will present it to them directly,” Rubio told reporters, referring to Russia. “We will convey that Ukraine is ready to halt all battlefield operations and immediately begin negotiations towards a lasting end to the war. We will then observe their response. A positive response would indicate genuine progress and a real possibility of peace. A negative response would be unfortunate and clarify their intentions.”

Following the discussions in Saudi Arabia, the Trump administration reversed its suspension of military aid to Kyiv for its fight against Russia’s invasion.

President expressed hope that an agreement could be finalized “over the next few days.”

“I’ve been saying that Russia has been easier to negotiate with than Ukraine, which is unexpected,” Trump said Tuesday. “We hope to reach an agreement with Russia. We have a commitment from Ukraine for a full ceasefire, which is positive.”

Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, is expected to travel to Moscow this week, according to a source familiar with the situation, after media reports indicated Witkoff plans to meet with Russian President .

Rubio expressed optimism about the Saudi Arabia talks, stating on X that “today was a good day for peace,” while emphasizing that the next move rests with Russia.

“Thanks to @POTUS’s leadership and under the generous hospitality of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, we are closer to achieving lasting peace for Ukraine,” Rubio said. “The decision now rests with Russia.”
