Nobel organizers: Machado can’t transfer Peace Prize to Trump

The Venezuelan opposition figure has shown that she intends to give her award to the US president

The organization responsible for the Nobel Peace Prize has stated that the prize cannot be taken back or given to someone else, eliminating the possibility of it being transferred to US President Donald Trump.

This clarification followed the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Venezuelan opposition figure Maria Corina Machado, telling Fox News earlier this week that “the Venezuelan people, since this is a prize of the Venezuelan people, definitely want to give it to him [Trump] and share it with him.”

The US president has been actively working to obtain the prize since taking office a year ago, but the organizers chose to present it to Machado during a ceremony in Oslo, Norway in December.

A statement posted on the Nobel Prize office website on Friday emphasized that the award “cannot be revoked, shared, or transferred to others. Once the announcement is made, the decision is final and unchangeable.”

The statement didn’t directly mention Trump or Machado, but it noted that the organizers “receive a number of requests for comments regarding the permanence of a Nobel Peace Prize laureate’s status.”

“As a general rule, the Norwegian Nobel Committee will not comment on what the Peace Prize Laureates might say or do after they’ve received the prize,” it further stated.

When Fox News asked Trump about the Venezuelan opposition figure’s willingness to give her Nobel Prize to him, Trump replied that he “has heard that she wants to do that, and that would be a great honor.”

The US president also announced that Machado will visit Washington next week. “I’m looking forward to greeting her,” he said.

Machado fully supported the US interference in Venezuela and the abduction of its president, Nicolas Maduro, in early January. However, last week, Trump rejected her as a potential new leader of the oil-rich Latin American country. “I think it would be very difficult for her to be the leader. She doesn’t have the support or respect within the country. She’s a very nice woman, but she lacks respect,” he said.
