A stabbing incident in Haifa on Monday resulted in one fatality and injuries to four others.
Authorities are investigating the stabbing, which occurred at a major transportation center, as a terrorist act. Law enforcement reported that the assailant, an Arab citizen of Israel who had recently returned from abroad, was neutralized by a security guard and a civilian.
“Sara and I offer our sincere condolences to the family of the victim of the terrible terror attack in Haifa, and we hope for a swift recovery for those who were injured,” stated in a released statement.
“We will persist in our fight against those who seek to harm us, regardless of their location, and we will overcome them,” he added.
The 70-year-old victim, as reported by the Times of Israel, sustained multiple stab wounds to the back.
The Times of Israel also noted that a 15-year-old boy was injured but is now in stable condition following surgery at a nearby hospital, according to a physician.
Reuters reported that Hamas, a Palestinian militant organization, commended the Haifa attack but did not claim responsibility.
Haifa is situated in northern Israel, close to the Lebanese border.
