Rubio: Ukraine Agrees to Deal, Russia to be Presented with Offer

In a potential breakthrough towards a ceasefire and resolution of the conflict with Russia, Ukraine has agreed to a proposal presented by the Trump administration during discussions held in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

“We are now presenting this proposal to the Russians, hoping for their acceptance,” stated Secretary of State Marco Rubio to the press.

Rubio, accompanied by National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, remained tight-lipped about the specifics of the agreement, but affirmed that “Ukraine is seeking a cessation of hostilities.”

“We hope the Russians respond positively to this,” he continued. “The most meaningful demonstration of goodwill from the Russians would be their agreement.”

Rubio clarified that upon Moscow’s acceptance of this initial agreement, formal negotiations can begin.

“We have moved from the question of whether the war will end to the question of how it will end,” Waltz told reporters.

The return of children taken by Russia and the exchange of prisoners of war are issues that will be tackled in the “second phase,” according to Rubio and Waltz.
