Spanish Police: Missing Student Likely Crushed, Incinerated After Passing Out in Trash

According to police, a student who was partying in Palma, Majorca, was likely crushed to death in a garbage truck and subsequently incinerated at a waste disposal plant after falling into a garbage bin.

Agostina Rubini Medina, 24, had been missing for nearly three weeks after disappearing during a night out with friends in Palma, the capital of Majorca.

Spain’s National Police believe Medina fell into a garbage bin while trying to retrieve an item, such as her phone, and passed out before she and the garbage were collected by a truck, crushed in its compactor, and ultimately dumped into an incinerator.

A worker at a shop near a bus stop on Medina’s route home reported seeing the girl visibly drunk and leaving the shop shortly before midnight.

A short time later, a witness told police they saw Medina’s handbag and blouse near a large garbage bin about 15 minutes before workers arrived to empty it.

Tracking data showed Medina’s phone was at that location for approximately half an hour before moving to the incineration plant and shutting off, aligning with the garbage truck’s travel records.

Authorities suggest she was likely killed in the truck before it reached the plant.

Police discovered human skeletal remains at the incinerator plant and have submitted them for DNA testing to confirm if they belong to Medina.

Medina was described as a slender woman with a low tolerance for alcohol who was taking medication, factors police say may have contributed to her passing out.
