Area residents reported hearing a powerful blast and experiencing their houses vibrate from several miles distant, as emergency personnel rushed to the facility after Monday evening explosion reports. 12News reported that authorities ordered residents on Port Arthur’s west side to shelter in place.

Jefferson County Sheriff Zena Stephens stated that while officials were addressing the situation, it remained premature to confirm if there were any casualties.

Port Arthur Fire Department’s Antonio Mitchell likewise verified that an occurrence took place at the Valero plant, though he noted that specifics were unavailable while teams were still en route.

The Valero Port Arthur refinery ranks among the key processing centers along the Texas Gulf Coast, situated at 1801 South Gulfway Drive in Port Arthur.
