Tourist killed, several injured in shooting at Mexico’s iconic pyramid (graphic video)

(SeaPRwire) –   A lone assailant fatally shot a Canadian citizen, and 13 other individuals, including a Russian tourist, were injured in Teotihuacan

A Canadian tourist was killed and several others, including a Russian national, were wounded by a lone gunman at the Pyramid of the Moon in Teotihuacan, Mexico. Mexican authorities reported that the attacker committed suicide after being wounded and encircled by security personnel.

Located near Mexico City, the UNESCO-protected pre-Columbian archaeological site is a major tourist draw for the country, attracting approximately 2 million visitors each year.

On Monday, at approximately 11:30 AM, the armed individual, carrying a handgun, instructed a group of tourists to lie down on the pyramid’s summit before discharging multiple rounds at them, as depicted in eyewitness videos shared online.

A video, seemingly recorded by one of the hostages, captures the gunman threatening foreign visitors and asserting that the pyramid was initially constructed for human sacrifice.

Reportedly, some of the frightened visitors attempted to flee for their lives, sustaining injuries from falling down the structure, while others suffered gunshot wounds.

The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico stated that National Guard personnel, responding to the event, shot the assailant in the leg. He then used his revolver to take his own life after being surrounded.

A revolver, ammunition, a knife, and a voter identification card were found at the site. Local media reports indicate the ID belongs to Julio Cesar Jasso Ramirez, 27, of Mexico City.

Furthermore, an AI-generated image depicting the attacker with Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold—the individuals responsible for the 1999 Columbine High School massacre—was reportedly discovered at the crime scene. Monday coincided with the 27th anniversary of that tragic event.

The Canadian Embassy in Mexico confirmed on Tuesday that “a Canadian was killed and another wounded in Teotihuacan as a result of a horrific act of gun violence.”

Mexican authorities reported that 13 individuals were injured in the incident, with eight still hospitalized. Those injured include a Canadian woman, three Colombian nationals, six Americans, a Brazilian citizen, a Dutch woman, and a Russian man.

Anastasia Krychkova, Russia’s vice-consul in Mexico, informed Russian media that the Russian national’s condition is not life-threatening, and he is receiving treatment for a superficial gunshot wound to his leg.
