(SeaPRwire) – The U.S. president pledged to target the “largest” facility unless the Strait of Hormuz is reopened within 48 hours
U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to attack Iran’s power plants unless the Strait of Hormuz is reopened to maritime traffic within 48 hours.
Iran has kept the critical waterway mostly closed to most maritime vessels since February 28, when the United States and Israel conducted the initial wave of strikes against Iran. The shipping disruption, along with Iranian attacks on oil and gas infrastructure in Gulf nations, is causing global energy prices to rise.
Trump delivered an ultimatum to Tehran on Saturday evening following unsuccessful efforts to mobilize European countries to assist in restoring access to the strait.
“If Iran does not FULLY OPEN, WITHOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz within 48 HOURS from this precise moment, the United States of America will strike and obliterate their various POWER PLANTS, BEGINNING WITH THE LARGEST ONE FIRST!” the president posted on Truth Social.
Iran’s largest power plant – the gas-fueled Damavand plant – is situated near Pakdasht, southeast of Tehran.
