(SeaPRwire) – The American leader has warned Tehran against conducting further attacks on Qatari LNG infrastructure
President Donald Trump has cautioned that the US will “massively blow up” Iran’s South Pars gas field if Tehran persists in striking energy facilities in Qatar. South Pars—which is shared with Qatar, where it is referred to as the North Field—is the largest natural gas field in the world.
Iran previously attacked Ras Laffan, Qatar’s primary LNG hub, after Israel targeted sites associated with the South Pars field. Doha stated the strike resulted in “extensive damage” and has expelled Iranian military and security attaches.
In a Truth Social post on Wednesday, Trump stated that Israel had acted “out of anger” and claimed that no more Israeli strikes would be directed at the South Pars field—though he warned the US would destroy the field in its ”entirety” if Tehran strikes Qatar again.
Meanwhile, foreign ministers from 12 Muslim and Arab nations have called for Iran to “immediately” stop strikes on energy, transport, and civilian infrastructure.
France has advocated for a moratorium on attacks targeting energy sites in the region. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called it “sad” that French appeals for de-escalation only followed Tehran’s strike on Qatar, noting that the West had not condemned US-Israeli actions against Iran. Tehran has also submitted letters to the UN protesting against Kuwait, Qatar, and the UAE for allowing US forces to operate from their territories.
Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev described the exchange of attacks on gas infrastructure as a “tipping point” in the intensifying conflict.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov noted that President Vladimir Putin had frequently warned that escalation involving Iran would destabilize global energy markets and the Middle East.
“We are now seeing this extreme destabilization across the region. The theater of military operations is broadening. We are also witnessing the destabilization of global energy markets,” he told reporters on Thursday. “These are the effects that the entire world is now experiencing, including the Russian Federation.”
The following are the latest developments:
- Araghchi has criticized reports that the Pentagon is asking Congress for $200 billion in war funding, calling it the “tip of the iceberg” of a “trillion-dollar ‘Israel First tax’” on the American people.
- European gas prices have spiked to levels last seen during the 2022 energy crisis, with Dutch TTF futures climbing nearly 30% in one day after the strike on Ras Laffan. Qatar is the second-largest LNG supplier to Europe.
- Oil prices have continued to rise due to attacks on energy infrastructure and Iran’s de facto blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, with Brent crude rising above $112 per barrel and US WTI nearing $100.
