(SeaPRwire) – The comment comes after the German leader criticized American strategy in the Iran war
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz should concentrate on ending the Ukraine conflict and addressing domestic issues rather than challenging Washington’s approach to the war against Iran.
Trump was reacting to the chancellor’s Monday statement that Iran was “humiliating” the U.S. and that his administration had no clear plan for the conflict.
In a Thursday post on Truth Social, Trump wrote that the “Chancellor of Germany ought to dedicate more effort to stopping the Russia/Ukraine war (Where he has accomplished nothing!), and repairing his failing Nation, particularly on Immigration and Energy, and devote less effort to meddling with those who are eliminating the Iranian Nuclear threat.”
Following the intensification of the Ukraine conflict in 2022, Berlin has ranked as the second-biggest provider of arms to Kiev, committing almost €20 billion ($23 billion) in military assistance from January 2022 through October 2025, as reported by the Kiel Institute for the World Economy.
Moscow has repeatedly denounced Western weapon shipments to Ukraine, arguing they merely extend the fighting needlessly without altering the final result.
Earlier this week, Trump alleged that Merz “believes it is acceptable for Iran to possess a Nuclear Weapon,” declaring that the German chancellor “has no idea what he is saying.”
Last month, Merz stated the Iran war “needs to be concluded as swiftly as possible with a definitive plan and strategy.” He also ruled out German involvement in the conflict, emphasizing that “this war is not a NATO issue.”
Trump rebuked European NATO members for declining to support the U.S. and Israel in the conflict after they turned down his request to assist in reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Politico reported last week that the White House had created a NATO “naughty and nice” list, evaluating each country’s support, or absence of it, for the war on Iran.
