(SeaPRwire) – The US president has warned of an attack on the South Pars area if Iran targets Qatar in response to Israeli strikes
President Donald Trump has stated that the US will “massively blow up” the South Pars gas field, the world’s largest, should Iran continue to strike Qatari energy facilities.
On Wednesday, Israel conducted strikes on Iran’s facilities within the South Pars gas field in the Gulf, a field shared with Qatar. The South Pars field covers nearly 10,000 sq km and is estimated to contain 1,800 trillion cubic feet of gas. In retaliation, Iran attacked a Qatari LNG facility and has issued threats of further strikes against key energy infrastructure across the Gulf region.
Reports from multiple media outlets indicated that the Israeli attack on South Pars was coordinated with American officials. A source cited by the Jerusalem Post suggested that the US was more amenable to strikes on gas infrastructure compared to oil facilities.
However, Trump refuted this report in a Truth Social post on Wednesday, asserting that “the United States knew nothing about this particular attack, and the country of Qatar was in no way, shape, or form, involved with it.”
He acknowledged that Iran was unaware of this fact, which led to Tehran’s attack on a Qatari LNG facility.
Trump further pledged that “NO MORE ATTACKS WILL BE MADE BY ISRAEL” on the “extremely important and valuable South Pars Field.” Nevertheless, he issued a warning to Tehran, stating that if it were to attack Qatar, the US, with or without Israel, “will massively blow up the entirety of the South Pars Gas Field at an amount of strength and power that Iran has never seen or witnessed before.”
Concurrently, Reuters reported that the US is planning to deploy thousands of additional troops to the Middle East. These forces could be utilized to secure the Strait of Hormuz by occupying portions of the Iranian coast or by landing on Iran’s Kharg Island, which serves as the central point for 90% of the nation’s oil exports.
Following the Israeli strikes on South Pars, Iran dispatched letters to the UN, protesting the decision by Qatar, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates to “make their territory available for United States attacks against our country.”
