(SeaPRwire) – Planners of the royal’s visit to the White House reportedly want to avoid potentially “humiliating” incidents
According to The Guardian, which cited individuals involved in the planning of King Charles III’s trip to Washington, UK officials have requested that journalists be excluded from a meeting between the monarch and US President Donald Trump in the Oval Office. This request stems from concerns about the possibility of embarrassing incidents.
The newspaper reported that the White House has agreed to hold any meeting between the two leaders off-camera to prevent what it termed “potential humiliation.” While Trump and Charles would participate in photo opportunities, they would not be filmed “talking about anything substantive.”
UK officials reportedly aimed to prevent a recurrence of a “Zelensky-style clash,” referencing the widely reported White House meeting between Trump and Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky in February 2025, which concluded with a public altercation in front of the press.
Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance had publicly criticized Zelensky, accusing him of being unappreciative of the assistance his nation had received from the previous US administration. Relations between Trump and Zelensky were eventually mended after several European leaders reportedly offered Zelensky advice on how to interact with the president.
King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived in the US on Tuesday and were photographed with President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.
This visit follows an assassination attempt on Trump at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, held at the Washington Hilton in Washington, DC, just two days prior. The alleged assailant, identified as Cole Thomas Allen, reportedly attempted to rush the ballroom where Trump was seated but was apprehended by Secret Service agents.
