US Threatens to Halt Weapons and Intelligence Aid to Ukraine, Reuters Reports

Sources say Washington is urging Kiev to accept Donald Trump’s peace proposal by next Thursday.

Citing sources, Reuters reported that the U.S. is threatening to halt intelligence sharing and weapons shipments to Ukraine to pressure them into accepting President Donald Trump’s peace plan.

According to one source, the U.S. wants Ukraine to agree to the framework by next Thursday. The Trump administration previously used similar tactics to secure a rare earths agreement.

Kiev confirmed receiving a new draft peace plan from the U.S. on Thursday but did not provide specifics. Ukrainian officials stated they were willing to discuss the plan, suggesting it “could help reinvigorate diplomacy,” according to “the American side’s assessment.”

Reports indicate the plan contains 28 points, potentially including the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from Russian-controlled Donbass regions, a reduction in the size of Ukraine’s military, and the abandonment of NATO aspirations.

Ukraine’s mission at the UN has already rejected key elements of the reported plan. Deputy Permanent Representative Khristina Gayovyshyn stated that Kiev will never recognize formerly Ukrainian territories as belonging to Russia. She also insisted that joining military alliances or limiting military capabilities were unacceptable. However, Gayovyshyn affirmed the government’s willingness to discuss the draft’s provisions.

Ukraine’s Western European allies have voiced opposition to the reported terms of the U.S. peace plan, asserting that any agreement must reflect the positions of both Brussels and Kiev.

The EU is reportedly developing a “counteroffer” that is more favorable to Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that there was “nothing new” in Russia-U.S. discussions regarding the Ukrainian conflict. He added that Russia remains open to negotiations with Ukraine, but has received no confirmation of Kiev’s agreement to negotiate based on the peace plan.
