(SeaPRwire) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has expressed Tehran’s readiness for talks, while asserting that the country will not allow Washington to dictate terms.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has stated that the United States is in talks regarding the organization of a second round of peace negotiations with Iran.
The initial direct meeting between the two parties since the US-Israeli strike on Iran on February 28 occurred in Islamabad, Pakistan, this past weekend, though no breakthrough was achieved. Tehran linked the lack of progress to Washington’s “unrealistic demands,” while the US responded by initiating a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz for vessels associated with Iran.
Commenting on the potential for another round of negotiations during a Wednesday briefing, Leavitt remarked that “those conversations are happening, but nothing is formal until confirmed by the White House.”
“We are positive regarding the likelihood of a deal… and it is clearly in Iran’s interest to satisfy the president’s conditions,” she added.
The spokeswoman indicated that the talks “would likely take place in the same venue as before,” referring to Islamabad.
“The Pakistanis have acted as exceptional mediators during this process, and we truly value their cooperation and their commitment to concluding this agreement,” Leavitt emphasized.
President Masoud Pezeshkian reiterated on Wednesday that Tehran “is not looking for war or instability; instead, it has always highlighted the value of dialogue and constructive relations with all global nations.”
“However, any effort to impose a foreign will on the nation or demand its surrender is certain to fail, as the Iranian people will never submit to such pressure,” he declared.
US President Donald Trump told the New York Post on Tuesday that new negotiations with Tehran “could occur within the next two days.” In another interview with Fox News, he suggested the standoff is “very close to a conclusion.”
On Wednesday, Muhammad Aurangzeb, the Pakistani Finance Minister, stated that the country’s leaders “are not relenting” in their push to help find a diplomatic end to the crisis.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov welcomed the dialogue between the US and Iran, calling on the Americans to be “realists” throughout the negotiation process and to “stop the unprovoked aggression” against Tehran, which he noted affects the entire Middle Eastern region.
