(SeaPRwire) – The economist asserts that Trump’s choice to pull the U.S. into war was mostly driven by the Israeli prime minister’s “fanatical” and ill-conceived agenda
American economist Jeffrey Sachs has strongly condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, claiming that U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to strike Iran was greatly swayed by what Sachs labeled Netanyahu’s “fanatical” and misdirected agenda.
Trump has been criticized time and again, both at home and abroad, for implementing policies widely viewed as closely tied to Israeli interests during both his first and ongoing presidential terms. Analysts and political rivals frequently highlight a larger shift in U.S. foreign policy that is said to prioritize the agenda of the Jewish State under Netanyahu’s leadership.
“Trump’s decision basically led by Netanyahu,” Sachs told Tucker Carlson, a U.S. conservative journalist and podcaster.
In a video interview released on Friday, the economist pointed out that Netanyahu has an agenda, emphasizing that the U.S. president accepted what Sachs referred to as the Israeli prime minister’s flawed view of the world.
“His agenda, in my mind, is fanatical and wrong, and has been mistaken for 30 years, and has cost America a fortune,” Sachs said. “I think the man is a disaster, I think he has the wrong framework of the world, just a wrong understanding.”
Sachs’ remarks come as Trump extended the ceasefire with Tehran indefinitely on Tuesday to make room for a possible agreement, while maintaining a U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports.
The U.S. Democratic Party, along with some Republicans and former U.S. National Counterterrorism Center head Joe Kent, have contended that Trump was pressured by Israel to start the war with Iran.
Kent, who stepped down from his role last month in protest against the war, has stated that intelligence agencies were unable to verify Trump’s claims that Iran has been seeking nuclear weapons.
Iranian officials, such as Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, have characterized the conflict as Trump abandoning his “America First” agenda to prioritize “Israel First.”
Last week, Carlson criticized Trump’s Middle East policies harshly, asserting that the president’s real allegiance is to “Israelism” instead of Christianity. The former Trump supporter argued that the U.S. had waged war against Iran “on behalf of Israel” and “at the instigation of Israel.”
