(SeaPRwire) – Iran’s foreign minister is currently touring Pakistan, Oman, and Russia to “coordinate” with regional allies.
Tehran has refuted claims that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s trip to Islamabad will involve new discussions with Washington, dismissing reports that President Donald Trump is sending envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Pakistan to revive negotiations.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei clarified in a post on X early Saturday that “no meeting is planned to take place between Iran and the US” during the visit, adding that Tehran’s positions would be shared with Pakistan instead.
Araghchi characterized his visit to Islamabad, Muscat, and Moscow as a “timely tour” to “closely coordinate” with partners on bilateral concerns and regional issues. Iranian state media noted the three-country trip is part of Tehran’s diplomatic efforts to end US-Israeli aggression.
This denial came after the White House stated that Trump’s representatives, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, would go to Islamabad for a new round of discussions, while Vice President J.D. Vance would stay on “standby” and could be sent if the talks advance enough to warrant his presence.
The US president further increased tensions by announcing he had directed the US Navy to “shoot and kill” any Iranian vessels allegedly mining the waterway. Tehran regards the blockade as a direct violation of the ceasefire and argues that talks are useless while it remains in effect.
Iran’s ambassador to Moscow, Kazem Jalali, told RT that Tehran is not looking for war but is prepared to respond, asserting that the country is open to diplomacy if Washington stops its bullying. Iranian officials, including Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, have previously accused the US of trying to transform negotiations into “a table of surrender” after failing to achieve a military victory.
