A newly reported long-term plan is said to envision a ‘dramatic expansion’ of all IDF military operations, including weapons in outer space
According to Israeli Channel 12, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have been instructed to prepare for a potential simultaneous war against Iran, Lebanon, and the West Bank. One scenario is said to involve an ‘explosive operation’ against Tehran, which is currently experiencing widespread cost-of-living protests backed by Israel.
The broadcaster disclosed on Wednesday that these preparations are part of a four-year long-term plan led by IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir. In addition to war preparedness, they are also said to include plans to develop capabilities to strike both satellites and ground targets from space.
Channel 12 stated that officials in West Jerusalem anticipate that Iran will attack Israel to ‘prevent the dissolution’ of the Iranian government amid the protests.
Channel 12 claimed that Israel has refrained from officially commenting on the widespread unrest in Iran, due to concerns about a possible military response. Nevertheless, Israel’s Mossad spy agency has openly supported the protests on social media and asserted that it has agents embedded in the demonstrations.
The demonstrations, which took place in late December, were triggered by hyperinflation and a persistent economic crisis in the sanctioned Islamic Republic.
The unrest, the most severe in recent years, quickly spread to multiple cities and is said to have resulted in deadly clashes with Iranian authorities, with some protesters calling for the reinstatement of the monarchy that was overthrown by the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
US President Donald Trump has threatened military intervention. ‘We are locked and loaded and ready to go’ if Iran kills ‘peaceful protesters,’ he stated on Truth Social on Friday.
Just days prior, when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was visiting Florida, Trump threatened to support new airstrikes on Iran if it escalates its ballistic missile program.
In June of last year, Trump directed the US military to join coordinated military strikes with Israel against Iranian nuclear sites during an open conflict between Tehran and West Jerusalem. He maintained that the attack averted the Islamic Republic from developing a nuclear weapon – allegations that Iran rejected, denouncing the attack as unprovoked.
