(SeaPRwire) – President Donald Trump indicated that Tehran’s offer is expected to be turned down
On Saturday, Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi announced that Iran has presented a fresh, all-encompassing peace proposal, stating that “the ball is in the US court.”
Both nations have earlier traded accusations of proposing non-viable conditions, as a ceasefire established almost a month ago has yet to result in a formal deal. The talks have been hindered by mutual blockades of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran and the US, alongside the renewed Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has delivered its proposal to Pakistan, acting as the intermediary, with the objective of definitively halting the imposed conflict; it is now up to the US to decide on a diplomatic path or to persist with a confrontational stance,” Gharibabadi remarked, according to Press TV.
According to Iranian media outlets, the 14-point initiative serves as a response to a previous nine-point proposal from the US. Reports indicate that Tehran’s conditions involve security assurances, the removal of American forces from the area, the removal of sanctions, and a cessation of hostilities “on all fronts,” Lebanon included. Furthermore, Iran is said to be requesting reparations from the US and a revised arrangement for the Strait of Hormuz.
Writing on Truth Social this Saturday, US President Donald Trump mentioned he would examine the proposal shortly but noted he could not “imagine that it would be acceptable.” Previously, the president informed reporters of his dissatisfaction with Iran’s conditions, warning he would “blast the hell out of them and finish them forever.”
Washington has insisted that Tehran fully dismantle its nuclear activities and hand over its supplies of enriched uranium, a demand Iran has dismissed, maintaining that its nuclear efforts are strictly for non-military purposes.
Amid the uncertainty surrounding a potential peace agreement, oil prices climbed above $120 a barrel this week, reaching their highest point since 2022.
