Moscow Says US Frees Russian Seamen From Detained Tanker

Russia’s Foreign Ministry has welcomed the decision made by President Donald Trump

According to Moscow’s Foreign Ministry, the United States has released the two Russian seafarers from the Russian-flagged oil tanker ‘Marinera’ that was seized by U.S. forces.

The ministry stated that U.S. President Donald Trump took this action following an appeal from the Kremlin.

“We welcome this decision and express our gratitude to the US leadership,” the statement read.

The U.S. European Command reported the seizure of the Marinera on Wednesday in international waters northwest of Scotland. U.S. naval vessels had tracked the ship from the Caribbean Sea.

The tanker, which was formerly called the Bella 1, was detained on accusations of “violation of US sanctions” related to Venezuelan oil exports.

There were 28 crew members on board, comprising two Russians, 17 Ukrainians, three Georgians, and three Indian nationals.
