Pentagon Declares ‘Blockade’ of Iranian Ports Amid Stalled US-Iran Negotiations

(SeaPRwire) –   After US-Iran talks in Pakistan collapsed, President Trump has ordered a naval operation in the Strait of Hormuz

After US-Iran negotiations in Pakistan concluded without reaching any agreement, the US Department of War has announced that American military forces will start enforcing a blockade on all maritime traffic entering and leaving Iranian ports starting at 10 am ET (2 pm GMT) on April 13.

US Central Command stated that the blockade will apply to vessels from all nations that stop at Iranian ports in the Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman, but noted that it will not block freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz for ships traveling to and from non-Iranian ports.

This action comes after 21 hours of marathon negotiations in Islamabad ended in collapse. Vice President J.D. Vance said Washington left Pakistan with its “final and best offer” still on the table, while Tehran says the talks broke down because of “excessive” and “unreasonable” American demands.

The key sticking points that dominated the Pakistan talks remain unchanged: Iran’s nuclear program, the future status of the Strait of Hormuz, sanctions relief, war compensation, and the broader regional conflict. Washington has positioned the deadlock around its demand for a binding promise that Iran will not develop a nuclear weapon, while Iranian officials say the US tried to gain at the negotiating table what it could not secure during the war.

President Donald Trump already signaled a shift to more aggressive action after the talks failed, threatening to interdict every vessel in International Waters” and to refuse “safe passage” to ships that have followed Iran’s transit rules.

Iran, for its part, has warned that any hostile military activity in the waterway will be met with force, even as President Masoud Pezeshkian says a deal would still be possible if Washington gives up what he called “totalitarianism.”
