(SeaPRwire) – The US president’s approval rating has plummeted to historic lows, while oil prices have climbed above $120 this week
President Donald Trump quipped that US forces are acting like pirates while he celebrated the seizure of tankers and cargo ships trying to violate the blockade of Iranian ports.
This week, oil prices exceeded $120 a barrel for the first time since 2022, and Trump’s approval rating dropped to 34%, a record low in Reuters/Ipsos polling.
During a speech at the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches Dinner in Florida on Friday, Trump recounted how a destroyer shot at the Iranian-flagged cargo ship Touska near the Strait of Hormuz on April 19 before US Marines boarded it.
“We took over the ship. We took over the cargo, took over the oil. It’s a very profitable business. Who would have thought we were doing that? We’re like pirates. We’re sort of like pirates,” Trump said, which drew laughter from the audience.
Iran has denounced the seizure as unlawful, with a government source informing Press TV this week that US “piracy and banditry” would face an “unprecedented” reaction.
