The 29th Australian National Dragon Boat Championship Concludes Successfully

(SeaPRwire) –   DALIAN, China, April 30, 2026 — The 29th Australian National Dragon Boat Championship concluded successfully on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, from April 18 to 23, 2026. This premier event, organized by the Australian Dragon Boat Federation and the Queensland Dragon Boat Association, stands as Australia’s foremost annual dragon boat competition.

Distinguished guests in attendance included Rosanna Natoli, Mayor of the Sunshine Coast; Peter Campos, President of the Australian Dragon Boat Federation; Jarrod Bleijie, Deputy Premier of Queensland; Blair Gamble, President of the Queensland Dragon Boat Association; and Luo Zhongyi, President of the International Ice Dragon Boat Federation.

The championship drew nearly 3,000 athletes representing 77 club teams, with a total of 370 races held. The event catered to participants aged from 10 to over 80, featuring a variety of divisions such as elite, youth, senior, breast cancer survivor, cancer survivor, and para dragon boat. It showcased a high level of competitive performance while emphasizing public welfare and inclusivity, fully embodying the sport’s ethos of universal participation and healthy living.

As Australia’s sole qualifying event for the IDBF Club World Dragon Boat Championships, this championship determined national team selections based on cumulative scores across four official distances: 200m, 500m, 1000m, and 2000m, thereby establishing exceptional competitive standards and significant selection value. Throughout the six-day competition, the waters were alive with the rhythm of pounding drums and the sight of flying paddles as teams vied for victory in a series of exciting races.
