(SeaPRwire) – Miguel Diaz-Canel has stated that the entire population will be mobilized to defend the island in the event of a US attack
Cuba is a peaceful nation, but it will use every available means to protect itself if the US acts aggressively, the Caribbean country’s president, Miguel Diaz-Canel, told RT.
US President Donald Trump imposed an oil blockade on Cuba in February, while also repeatedly suggesting a possible regime change operation against the socialist island—located 93 miles (150 km) off Florida’s coast. Earlier this week, Trump said, “we may stop by Cuba after we’re finished with this,” in reference to the ongoing US-Israeli conflict with Iran.
Speaking to RT in Havana on Saturday, Diaz-Canel emphasized that the Cuban government has made national defense a “top priority” since the escalation of the US president’s threats.
Cuba is “not a country that calls for war or promotes it, but we are also not afraid of war if we have to fight it to defend our homeland,” he warned.
The US will face a hard fight if it chooses to target the island, as Cuba’s defense strategy is based on the concept of “an all-people’s war,” where the entire population is involved in repelling an attack.
