Report: Mexican Cartels Employ Kamikaze Drones, Explosives Against Border Patrol Amid Trump’s Border Crackdown

An internal Border Patrol memo warns agents of Mexican cartel threats using explosive-laden drones and other explosives in response to increased border enforcement under the Trump administration.

The “Officer Safety Alert,” citing social media and other intelligence, advises agents to remain vigilant, wear ballistic armor, and utilize long firearms. The memo, obtained by the New York Post, details intelligence received on February 1, 2025, indicating cartel authorization for drone attacks against Border Patrol and military personnel.

It urges all personnel to report drone sightings to their superiors and the EPT-IOC.

Digital has contacted the U.S. Border Patrol, CBP, and ICE for comment.

News Nation’s earlier reporting highlighted cartel social media posts encouraging attacks on ICE agents, including spitting, urinating on them, and defecating in their vehicles, as well as urging assassinations of border personnel.

A recent incident in Fronton, Texas, saw cartel members firing upon Border Patrol agents after fleeing a Mexican military operation and seeking refuge on an island between the two countries.

The heightened threat coincides with the Trump administration’s increased deportation efforts and border security measures.

The memo suggests cartel leaders believe a stronger U.S. border presence threatens their drug and human smuggling operations.

Senator Mike Lee proposed allowing private entities to combat cartels, suggesting that authorizing privateers could reduce costs for taxpayers by allowing them to profit from seizures.
