Six arrested following clashes at UK anti-immigration rally (VIDEOS)

The Britain First party staged its ‘March for Remigration’ in Manchester on Saturday

Police reported that six individuals were detained on Saturday in Manchester, northwestern England, after clashes erupted between anti-immigration demonstrators and counterprotesters.

Thousands of people took part in the ‘March for Remigration’ organized by Britain First, a right-wing party calling for the large-scale deportation of illegal migrants. Many participants carried British and English flags.

Counterprotesters from groups such as Stand Up to Racism Manchester and the Resist Britain First coalition also gathered in the streets to denounce immigration hardliners.

Skirmishes and fistfights broke out between the opposing groups, with Britain First supporters accusing their opponents of trying to block the streets. Police intervened to break up the altercations.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson stated that six people were arrested for public disorder and breach of the peace. The offenses included assaulting an emergency worker and violating a dispersal notice.
