(SeaPRwire) – RAF Fairford is home to B52 and B1 planes utilized in operations against Iran
A significant fire erupted at a Royal Air Force (RAF) base in western England early Sunday morning. This base has recently been used by the United States for operations targeting Iran and has been the site of anti-war demonstrations.
The Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service reported that crews were dispatched to RAF Fairford shortly after midnight on Sunday.
“The fire involved a single-story industrial storage building. It was successfully brought under control, and there were no injuries,” the service stated.
Footage shared on social media depicts a large fire above warehouse structures, visible from the street, with a substantial column of smoke ascending into the night sky.
RAF Fairford serves as a base for USAF B52 and B1 bombers and functions as a crucial European operational hub for the United States. Hundreds of anti-war protesters gathered outside the base on Saturday, calling for the UK to close military facilities involved in operations against Iran.
Officials indicated that initial findings suggest the fire was accidental.
However, a deliberate act of vandalism against a U.S. military aircraft occurred in neighboring Ireland last week.
A man was apprehended after breaching security at Shannon Airport and damaging a U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules with a hatchet. Local law enforcement confirmed his arrest and subsequent charges for criminal damage. No motive has been disclosed at this time.
