The US president has shared grainy security footage of an armed man attempting to breach a security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton, where President Trump and other high-ranking officials were in attendance for the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
Footage released by Trump on Truth Social depicts the suspect running past a security barricade as Secret Service agents move towards him. The president also shared several photographs of the individual, who authorities have identified as a 30-year-old resident of California.
“A man approached a security checkpoint armed with multiple weapons, and he was apprehended by some very courageous members of the Secret Service,” Trump stated at the White House several hours after he was quickly escorted off stage.
“One officer sustained a gunshot wound but was protected by the fact that he was wearing, evidently, a very effective bulletproof vest,” Trump commented, adding that the officer is “recovering well.”
