Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, son of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been appointed as the new supreme leader of Iran.
Ali Khamenei served as Iran’s leader from 1989 until he was killed during the initial US-Israeli bombardment of Tehran on February 28.
On Monday, Iran’s Assembly of Experts—the body responsible for evaluating and appointing the supreme leader—declared that Mojtaba Khamenei was selected following “thorough and comprehensive discussions.”
