Millions of Iranians participated in Friday prayers nationwide for the first time following the US killing of their supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

People assembled in central Tehran and other urban centers to show reverence and pray, as the war completed its second week with no resolution apparent. According to Iran’s UN envoy Amir Saeid Iravani, the US-Israeli offensive has resulted in a minimum of 1,332 Iranian civilian fatalities and thousands more injured.

Retaliatory strikes from Tehran have killed 11 people in Israel, and at least six US military personnel have lost their lives.

Video from RT depicted groups of men and women clad in black, some bearing Iranian flags. Numerous participants carried pictures of the slain supreme leader, shouted slogans against the US and Israel, and waved flags backing their government during the continuing bombardments.

Comparable gatherings occurred in other cities across the Islamic Republic, such as Ilam and Borujerd in the west and Zahedan in the southeast, the AFP news agency reported.

In several Middle Eastern nations, worshippers also observed the third Friday prayers of Ramadan under increased strain and upheaval from the persistent military confrontation.
